Confucius Institute Scholarships

In order to support the development of Confucius Institutes, facilitate Chinese language promotion and Chinese cultural transmission in the world, and cultivate qualified Chinese language teachers and talented students of Chinese language, the Confucius Institute headquarters, Hanban, is offering a scholarship to provide financial aid for students, scholars, and Chinese language teachers worldwide to proceed to a Master’s degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (MTCSOL) in Chinese universities (host institutes) or study in such majors as Chinese language and literature, Chinese history, and Chinese philosophy.

A limited number of scholarships are available each year for study in China. Typically, a student will take the written Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) and the oral test (HSKK) for language placement and apply through CIM to one of several universities. For detailed information, visit the Hanban website and look under “Scholarships.”

Each spring, between February and May, the applicant can apply online for a Confucius Institute scholarship.

Finalists will be announced and notified in July, and materials for registration will be sent to them by recommending institutions. Please contact CIM in February to learn how and where to apply for a scholarship.
