Chinese New Year Celebration to welcome the Year of the Horse! With open house, dumplings, and traditional music on the zither (guzhen).

March 4

Lecture by Prof. Aron Shai, Rector of Tel-Aviv University, on similarities and differences between Israel's and China's concepts of nationalism.

April 15

Chinese Bridge Language Competition for college-level students.

April 22

Chinese Culture Talk with Master Calligrapher Fo Tao on aspects of philosophy and history as well as a calligraphy demonstration and discussion.

April 25

Film Screening of "A Touch of Sin" with discussion featuring acclaimed director Jia Zhangke and his leading actress Zhao Tao.

April 26

Maryland Day.  CIM hosted Chinese culture table that boasted some crazy fun including guessing interesting dried food items; “Pick a Stick,” based on a traditional temple activity to learn one’s fortune; and receiving a Chinese name.

May 9-11

Chinese Embroidery Exhibition in Rockville included double-sided embroidery and several styles of silk weaving.

May 18

Wushu Show with accomplished martial arts performers featuring fighting routines, masterful wielding of weapons, and Tai Chi demonstrations.

Celebration of CIM’s 9th anniversary. Visit to CIM by Chinese National Orchestra musicians, and Artist Zhou Jing. Performance at UMD’s Clarice Performing Arts Center with Chinese National Orchestra and Raleigh International Orchestra, Raleigh, NC. Display of art prints of the life of Confucius in “Traces of Confucius.”  National Day observation.
