SEVP Portal Information

On March 23, 2018, the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) launched the SEVP Portal for F-1 students participating in post-completion optional practical training (OPT) athe OPT STEM Extension.

The portal will allow F-1 students to report personal and employer information directly to SEVP. Through the portal, these students will be able to:

  • Add or edit their phone number.
  • Add or edit their mailing and physical address.
  • Add or edit their employer information.

The only exception is that science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) OPT student trainees will not be able to add or change their own employer information. The Form I-983, “Training Plan for STEM OPT Students,” requires the student’s designated school official (DSO) to add employer information.

To prepare for the launch on March 23, eligible students should confirm with their DSO that they have an up-to-date, personal email address in the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS). Please note that although the SEVP Portal will interface with SEVIS, it will not grant students direct access to the system or result in DSOs losing any SEVIS functionality.

Study in the States will continue to distribute information about the SEVP Portal through blog posts and social media updates.
