UMD: A Globally Connected University

UMD College Park ranked 33 in US, 67 in world, according to Times Higher Education Supplement

University of Maryland was ranked 67th in the world out of 980 surveyed institutions, according to the latest listing released by the Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) for 2016-17. UMD also ranked 33rd in the U.S. out of 147 of the top U.S. institutions surveyed this year. The THES rankings are a comprehensive list of global universities that take into account the universities research capabilities and output, teaching quality, international diversity, citation impact, and a number of other factors, and is considered one of the most widely recognized and influential university measures in the world. UMD was recognized for its excellence in research, faculty to student ratio, and its diverse student population, and its ranking jumped substantially by almost 50 places from 114 last year. According to Ross Lewin, Associate Vice President for International Affairs, the change in rankings marks a big moment for the university's global outreach. "Leapfrogging into the 67th spot of the Times Higher Education World University Ranking, the most well known and well regarded ranking system in the world, attests to the rising global reputation of the University of Maryland. The whole world looks at this ranking, and our status will open up even more doors for us to pursue meaningful research collaboration and student opportunities around the globe," said Lewin.
