Entomologists Raymond St. Leger, Brian Lovett work with West African colleagues to fight mosquito-borne diseases

University of Maryland entomologists Raymond St. Leger, Brian Lovett and seven West African collaborators, led by Abdoulaye Diabate and Etienne Bilgo from the Institut de Recherche en Sciences de la Santé and Centre Muraz in Burkina Faso have won the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) 2019 Newcomb Cleveland Prize.  Ther joint study described the first trial of a transgenic approach to combat malaria mosquitoes ever to be tested outside the laboratory.
