Faculty and professional staff at the University of Maryland who are seeking opportunities to enhance their international experience may apply to a number of programs besides Fulbright.
NOTE: All UMD personnel must first obtain permission from their program head or supervisor for their absence from campus. Administrators whose job duties do not explicitly include international travel should generally expect to use personal/annual leave to cover their absence.
- The National Science Foundation's International Science and Engineering (OISE) Section offers a number of programs to internationalize NSF projects and support partnerships between US institutions and global partners
- University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) - USAC is an association of 33 U.S. universities providing quality study abroad programs for more than 25 years.
- IES Abroad - IES Abroad is one of the most reputable study abroad providers in the United States.
- Council on International Education Exchange (CIEE) - CIEE offers unique programs like International Faculty Development Seminars, which provide faculty and administrators with access to invaluable resources and training to increase global understanding on campus.
- European Union Visitors Program - This program provides young professionals with a unique opportunity to learn from the inside how the European institutions work. Participants meet with specialists in fields of their choice as they follow extensive programs tailored specifically to their interests in the EU.
- American-Scandinavian Foundation (ASF) Fellowships and Grants - ASF offers several opportunities for international study and research in Scandinavia for up to a year.
- Taiwan Fellowship The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China offers this fellowship for interested scholars to pursue study at Taiwan’s universities, colleges, or research institutions.
- Canadian Studies Grants - The Embassy of Canada offers many prestigious chances for faculty and researchers from around the world to continue their work and study in Canada.
- India Studies Fellowships - The American Institute of India Studies grants researchers and performing artists several levels of fellowships to work in India.
