Study abroad students visit Chilean human rights memorial
Last month, University of Maryland students abroad in Chile with USAC visited Casa Memoria José Domingo Cañas. Located at the site of a former detention center, the memorial advocates for reparation, truth and justice for victims of Chile’s military dictatorship. This excursion, along with a visit to the Museum of Memory and Human Rights, is integrated into students’ Human Rights course to elevate their understanding. Students directly engaged with classroom topics as they explored the history of these sites, learned about human rights and reflected on the impact of these atrocities on the Chilean people.
