UMD Welcomes Japanese Quantum Tech Startup
On Monday, February 27, 2023, UMD welcomed a visit from Japan's leading quantum technology startup, NanoQT. The delegation's visit was hosted by UMD Quantum Startup Foundry (QSF) Director Piotr Kulczakowicz and Dr. John Sawyer, Interim Executive Director of the Mid-Atlantic Quantum Alliance (MQA). Accompanying the NanoTQ delegation were representatives from the Japanese Embassy in Washington, D.C. and the Maryland State Department of Commerce. The delegation toured a variety of facilities in and around UMD as a part of the new and exciting DMV quantum ecosystem that the MQA and QSF are fostering. This includes the UMD Quantum Technology Center (QTC) in the Idea Factory, the Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS) in the Brendan Iribe Center, the Q-lab at local startup, IonQ, and the Joint Quantum Institute (JQI). These site visits made a strong impression and planted the seeds for future collaboration and partnership.
