I have published the authoritative editions of the works of the transatlantic eighteenth-century Black authors Olaudah Equiano, Ignatius Sancho, Quobna Ottobah Cugoano, Phillis Wheatley. I have also published numerous articles and notes, including entries in the _Dictionary of National Biography_, on these and other Black writers. In addition, I have published two books on verbal and visual political British and American satire covering the seventeenth, eighteenth, and early nineteenth centuries. My most recent book is what many consider to be the authoritative biography of Equiano: _Equiano the African: Biography of a Self-Made Man_ (University of Georgia Press, 2005).
Writings and representations, both verbal and visual, of people of African descent in the English-speaking world during the seventeenth, eighteenth, and early nineteenth centuries. Transatlantic literature and culture in general during the same period in the English-speaking world.
