Global Partnerships-Staff Travel Grants Competition
Recognizing the integral role that University of Maryland staff play in the internationalization of the student experience—one of UMD's top institutional priorities—the Office of International Affairs (OIA) periodically offers a Global Partnerships-Staff Travel Grants Competition. Global Partnerships-Staff Travel Grants fund full-time staff members to visit UMD partner institutions around the globe to acquire new ideas and learn "Best Practices" that might be implemented in the grantee’s area of work. Grants of up to $5,000 support travel to one or more existing university global partners. Funds can be used to cover transportation, accommodations, food, and other travel-related expenses.

Sharing Best Practices in Accessible and Inclusive Learning in collaboration with the University of Edinburgh's Institute for Academic Development
Ms. Melekte Y. Truneh, Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources
Providing administrative support for development research in collaboration with Bahir Dar University, Debre Berhan University, and Wolkite University, Ethiopia
Ms. Stephanie Dolamore, Research and Assessment Analyst in Assessment; and Ms. Emily Foley, Research and Assessment Analyst in Assessment; both in the Office of Institutional Research, Planning, & Assessment
Advancing the Role of IR in Measuring and Supporting Institutional and National Student Success, with the Institutional Research and Planning Unit (IRPU), University of Johannesburg, South Africa
Ms. Dolamore and Ms. Foley will work with colleagues at the University of Johannesburg to explore and develop best practices for reporting student success metrics and conducting internal, institutional analysis of student success. Their hope is to begin the development of international standards in these areas, which are of growing importance to higher education institutions around the world.
Dr. Beth Douthirt Cohen, Assistant Director of Training, Office of Diversity & Inclusion
Sharing Best Practices in Equity, Diversity and Inclusion between Auckland and Maryland, with the Office of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Equity (The Equity Office), University of Auckland, New Zealand
Dr. Douthirt Cohen will do comparative work with the University of Auckland to help UMD both to think creatively and “outside the box” in terms of our diversity initiatives, and also to reflect on possible sites of strength and struggle that we may have not considered or may need to bolster.

Putting the "A" in STEAM: The Role of the Liberal Arts at a Research Institution with National University of Singapore, and the University of Hong Kong
At each institution Ms. Juhl’s learned about how students in liberal arts fields are integrated into larger institutional efforts that provide opportunities for professional development, particularly internships.
