Welcome to University of Maryland! Right now you must be very excited about the new experiences awaiting you. However, starting a new life here can be challenging, especially if you have never lived in the United States.  In order to help you settle down and start enjoying your life here as soon as possible, we suggest that you carefully read the following information.

The University’s Office of International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) assists international students with the process of applying to Maryland, advising on immigration, and making the most of the academic and social experience here. ISSS’s New Student Central(link is external) provides information to assist you with settling in to the University of Maryland and its surrounding community. ISSS provides complete information about new student orientations, applying for your visa, planning your travel to the U.S. and making connections at the University of Maryland. This is the best (and only!) source for all official UMD international student resources.  For important information such as visas and university registration rules, please refer to relevant official websites.

There are also active student organizations on campus that many people find useful. They can be found on the STARS website. Searching for “Chinese” will bring up a list of a number of these groups.
