Overview
At Education Abroad (EA), we affiliate with numerous study abroad programs administered by schools or organizations outside of UMD in order to give you the most flexibility in choosing a program that fits your interests and goals. Affiliate Programs represent providers with which we have formal billing and course transfer agreements. The program fee for these programs will be billed to your UMD Testudo account. Though most credits from Affiliate Programs will be transfer credit, some offer the opportunity for resident credit. Our current affiliates include:
- American Councils (ACTR) – Russian Federation (semester, academic year, or summer)
- CET Academic Programs (Multiple Regions)
- CIEE (Multiple Regions)
- FU-BEST (Germany)
- IES Abroad (Multiple Regions)
- IFSA: Institute for Study Abroad (multiple regions)
- SIT Study Abroad (Multiple Regions)
- Technical University of Denmark (DTU) Summer University
- The Education Abroad Network (TEAN) (Australia, New Zealand, China, Southeast Asia)
- Tubingen University Summer Course, Germany (summer only)
- University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) (Multiple Regions)
- University of Sydney (direct enroll) (fall and spring only) (Australia)
Research Programs & Apply
Start off by searching for an Affiliate Program by term, discipline, or engagement opportunity. Meet with an EA advisor to discuss options that are best for you.
The Affiliate Program application process involves two main steps:
- Submit a UMD approval application: This application allows us to approve your study abroad program selection so you may earn credit in a program outside of UMD. If you do not complete this application by the stated deadline, you may not receive credit for your study abroad program and will lose your student status for the time you are not studying at UMD. Access the program application online by clicking on the "Apply Now" button at the top of the program page on our website. You will login with your UMD directory ID and password and submit most application elements online.
- Apply directly to the program provider: After receiving UMD approval, you should submit the program application directly to the program sponsor by their deadline. Your program sponsor will determine your official acceptance to a program. You must adhere to the provider's timeline, eligibility standards, and application requirements.
After being accepted to your program, your EA advisor will guide you through the course pre-approval process where you will determine which credits you will fulfill abroad.
