What's the scoop?
There are two different summer programs available at MUAS for students to chose from.

1. Engineering for Sustainability:  July 1 - August 2
Enjoy the experience of studying abroad in the heart of Europe by joining the Summer School program "Engineering for Sustainability". Munich is the perfect place to be with its culture, nightlife, surrounding picturesque nature and numerous sports facilities.

At Munich University of Applied Sciences you can choose from a variety of engineering and economics courses taught completely in English. Excellent professors from our university and from our international partners offer courses in automotive, industrial, electrical engineering and entrepreneurship. Our university’s practice-oriented approach and its contacts at local firms guarantee application-oriented training.

The study program is complemented by field trips (e.g. to the factory of a famous Bavarian car brand) and enriched with cultural activities in Munich and Bavaria

2. Supply Chain Management Summer School: July 1 - July 12
Company visits make this summer school unique! The participants of this summer school will get an insight into several companies and learn about their successful methods at first hand. There are few cities more suitable for a program like this anywhere in the world: Munich is one of the leading economic, technological and scientific hubs in Germany. Many world-renowned companies from a wide range of industrial sectors are based here, including BMW, Siemens, MAN and Linde.

In the first week of the summer school companies located in the Munich area will be visited.
In the second week a 4-day tour will take us to 4 different "champions" (leading companies in their business sector) in 4 different parts of southern Germany. During the company visits the participants will have the opportunity to see selected levers for Operational Excellence at work, and will discuss company-specific topics with the managers in charge.

Language of Instruction: English

What do I take?
1. Engineering for Sustainability
Select two credit courses that are taught in English by multinational teams of two renowned lecturers from Munich University of Applied Sciences, Strascheg Center for Entrepreneurship and California Polytechnic University. In addition, all international students will take a German Language and Culture course. 40 student-professor contact hours are guaranteed in all courses including laboratory experiments and simulations.

To view a list and descriptions of the available courses, visit the program page.

2. Supply Chain Management Summer School
To get the most from the company visits the summer school offers three attendant academic courses:

The Future Supply Chain Management course focuses on the challenges facing the currently successful German supply chains in the years to come. You will understand the development of supply chain and operations management in Germany and have an overview of the main future challenges. You’ll be able to explain the relevant trends in detail and identify strategic priorities for specific companies. Basic knowledge of supply chain risk management completes this part of the course.

The German Way of Operational Excellence course focuses on established and proven methods of German companies in a global context. Best practices examples show how operational excellence is implemented and how German companies will be prepared for future challenges.

If you want to do business in Germany, you have to be aware of what drives people in this country. In the Doing Business in Germany course you will learn about economic history as well as Germany's economy today. Social and economic trends in the European context will also be discussed

You can find a complete course description here.

To apply to this program, you must complete two main steps:

  1. Submit a UMD approval application - start by clicking “apply now” at the top of this page. This application allows UMD Education Abroad to approve your study abroad program selection so you may earn credit in a program outside of UMD.
This application will require you to meet with your EA advisor, who will communicate important details related to participating in this program. If you do not complete this application by the stated deadline, you may not receive credit for your study abroad program and will lose your student status for the time you are not studying at UMD.
  2. Apply directly to the program provider. After receiving UMD approval, you should submit the program application directly to the program sponsor by their deadline. Your program sponsor will determine your official acceptance to a program. You must adhere to the provider's timeline, eligibility standards, and application requirements.

After being accepted to your program, your EA advisor will guide you through the course pre-approval process where you will determine which credits you will fulfill abroad.
