THE OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS facilitates the university's international partnerships, provides travel grants for UMD faculty, organizes the Global Leaders Series, sponsors international programs and events on campus, and provides administrative oversight for the offices/programs listed below.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT & SCHOLAR SERVICES provides information and services that enable international students and scholars to attend the University of Maryland, including: the evaluation of transcripts for all applicants who have completed academic coursework outside of the U.S.; orientation services for International students admitted to the University; counseling about immigration concerns, financial problems, and cross-cultural issues; and assistance for departments who need to obtain appropriate visas for visiting scholars and faculty members.

EDUCATION ABROAD provides advising and opportunities for both American and international students interested in studying outside the U.S. Students can choose short or long-term study abroad experiences that suit their academic and personal interests and earn credit towards a UMD degree for course work completed at accredited universities.

THE MARYLAND CHINA INITIATIVE serves as a focal point for China-related activities at the University of Maryland and promotes understanding about matters of importance to China, the United States, and the global Chinese community. MCI provides leadership development programs for Chinese ministries, provincial governments, industries and institutes of higher education.

THE CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE AT MARYLAND, jointly established by the Chinese government's National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language and the University of Maryland, offers courses in Chinese language and culture, events highlighting Chinese culture, and testing for Chinese language proficiency.
