We are excited that you are considering the University of Maryland, College Park to continue your education and the state of Maryland as your new home. We know it is a big decision to transition to a different country. International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) is here to assist you with each step of the process.
The University of Maryland seeks to enroll international students who demonstrate strong academic performance with records suggesting potential for success at Maryland. More than 10% of the students who enroll at the University of Maryland this year came from outside the U.S., placing UMD among the top 40 U.S. universities serving international students. In addition, this University is ranked 19th among those U.S. institutions hosting international scholars.
If you haven’t already applied to the University, please review the following websites to learn about the application and process and important deadlines; Undergraduate or Graduate admissions.
Once admitted to the University the ISSS office will contact you via email with instructions to log into UMD’s iTerp system. You will be asked to confirm if you plan to study on an F1/J1 visa or if you will remain on a different visa category.
Steps for studying with F1/J1 status
- Access Iterp and apply for immigration documents
- Pay 901 Fee
- Apply for your visa
- Attend ISSS pre arrival workshops/webinars to gain knowledge
- Submit arrival confirmation in Iterp
- Complete F1/J1 immigration video review in Iterp
- Arrive to the US and complete F1/J1 documents check in Iterp
- Attend campus orientation(s)
