New Student Orientation

Once you have received your I-20/DS-2019 from the University of Maryland, College Park:

  1.  Get ready to come to the United States (Immigration)
    (If you are currently in the US in F-1 or J-1 status, please make sure you have reviewed and completed the SEVIS Transfer process.)
      Pay the SEVIS Fee (Form I-901) and print a receipt
      Apply for your visa
      
  2. Things to complete now.
      Set up your Directory ID 
     Register for a require ISSS Immigration Session and optional orientation events
    • Undergraduate Students: Register for UMD New Student Orientation  (Required for all undergraduate students.
    • Graduate Students:  Review graduate orientation and department events

  Meet with your doctor to complete your Immunization Record Form
  Read our Tip of the Week(Emails ISSS sends before orientation)
  Visit the ISSS International Arrival Guide to learn about:
        •  Housing
        •  Bank accounts
        •  Health care
        •  Shopping
        •  Transportation
        •  And more...​

  1. Things to do when you arrive at UMD. (** Required to activate your SEVIS record)
      Attend an ISSS Immigration Session **​
      Complete your iTerp Check-in,**​
      Undergraduate Students:  Attend UMD New Student Orientation where you will register for classes**
      Graduate Students:  Meet with your academic advisor to register for classes
      Participate in International Orientation Week
      Get your UMD Student ID Card
      Submit your Immunization Record Form
      Report any change of address within 10 days at http://www.testudo.umd.edu/
      Visit the ISSS website for more information and resources
