International Education Week: 15th Annual JM Burgers Symposium, featuring Prof. Harry van den Akker, School of Engineering University of Limerick and Technical University, Delft
The J.M Burgers Symposium is an annual celebration of the life and work of Prof. Johannes (Jan) Burgers. After a long and distinguished scientific career at the Technical University Delft in the Netherlands, in 1955 Burgers moved to the United States to begin a second career as a research professor at the University of Maryland's Institute of Fluid Dynamics and Applied Mathematics, now the Institute for Physical Science and Technology (IPST). In 2004, IPST teamed with the J.M. Burgers Centrum at TU Delft to create the Burgers Program, one of UMD's most successful international research and teaching collaborations, of which the annual symposium is one piece, along with graduate coursework, faculty and student exchange, and other projects.
