OIA Annual Report

In the University of Maryland’s most recent strategic plan, Transforming Maryland: Higher Expectations, the continued internationalization of UMD is one of three main Initiatives. Dr. Wallace Loh has continued that emphasis during his presidency, making the further development of UMD as a “globally networked university” one of his four main themes.

During the 2012-2013 Academic Year, UMD continued to advance this global agenda through the activities of the Office of International Affairs (OIA) and its reporting units.

  • Record numbers of international students and scholars came to College Park this year.
  • UMD once again sent more than 2,000 students and scholars abroad for study and research.
  • OIA embarked upon a series of new programmatic initiatives, such as the Maryland Social Entrepreneur Corps, designed to refocus UMD’s international education efforts around three key themes: Global Citizenship, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and Professional Development.
