UMD hosts Universitas 21 Annual General Meeting

The University of Maryland hosted the 2019 Universitas 21 Annual General Meeting on April 30 through May 3, 2019, welcoming the presidents and senior administrators of 27 prominent universities from across six continents for meetings and events focused on how to improve cross-border collaboration and higher education.

UMD President Wallace D. Loh set the theme “Globalization, Isolationism, and the Response in Higher Education” to encourage conversations on how the international Universitas 21 (U21) network can collaborate to address the world's greatest global challenges. Nationalistic politics on the rise across the world at the very time that the challenges facing the planet are becoming increasingly urgent, UMD leaders said, escalating the need for international networks like U21 to expand their collaboration.
