26 University of Maryland students were recently awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship from the U.S. Department of State, a record number since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted study abroad in 2020.

Dr. Elvira Barkhatova, visiting Fulbright scholar, shares her experience on campus and her work as a linguist, exploring the formation of new words.

"I gained writing skills and knowledge about how customs and food traditions can differ in other countries. These skills will allow me to write better and also better understand and appreciate people who have different cultures from my own."
