Maintaining Status

As an international student, scholar or researcher, it is important for you to maintain a legal and valid non-immigrant status while in the U.S.

Note: Your dependents’ status is only valid as long as your status is.

One of the most important services we offer is to help you maintain your status. We provide a brief summary here of the most important requirements you need to follow. If you have any concerns about your status, you can make an appointment with an international advisor.

Immigration documents must remain valid and unexpired

Your passport should be valid at least six months into the future at all times. If your passport is expiring soon, renew it with your country’s consulate in the US or in your home country.

Your visa may be expired or you may be in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program. If traveling outside the U.S., your visa must be valid when you re-enter.

Your I-94 Arrival/Department Form should indicate the correct immigration status and expiration date.

Currently enrolled students, scholars and exchange visitors - Update your address and contact information in Testudo.

Students on OPT/AT – Update your address in iTerp (Address Update while on OPT or Address Update while on AT eForms)

Your family's immigration status depends solely on your status. Report your dependent’s change of address, email or phone number through iTerp.
