"Europe and the Israel-Hamas War." (online panel)

1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Location: Virtual

In the wake of Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack, and the subsequent Israeli military campaign in the Gaza Strip, many European governments faced the challenge of
navigating complex geopolitical dynamics, addressing domestic pressures, and supporting a long-term sustainable resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Dr. Joanna Dyduch, Associate Professor and the head of the Department of Israel Studies at Jagiellonian University (Poland’s) Institute of the Middle and Far East and Dr. Sharon Pardo, Jean Monnet Chair (ad personam) in European Studies in the Department of Politics and Government at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (Israel) will lead this online discussion of the multifaceted European response to the crisis, examining diplomatic efforts, humanitarian initiatives, and the role of regional stability in shaping policy decisions across the continent. The event will also address the Israeli perspective on Europe’s approach to this ongoing crisis.

Co-sponsored by UMD College of Arts and Humanities | Joseph and Alma Gildenhorn Institute for Israel Studies | Joseph and Rebecca Meyerhoff Program and Center for Jewish Studies
